Newtown Township Homes & Buildings Play a Historical Role

Founded by William Penn in the seventeenth century, this town has been a safe haven for our patriotic friends for centuries. It is one of the few places that can honestly claim that George Washington slept here, as he set up his headquarters after his victory in Trenton. Private homes and historic buildings are showcased every year with an annual holiday house tour through Newtown Township homes  decorated for the season. The Half Moon Inn (Court Inn) is now the home of the Newtown Historic Association  and features open hearth cooking with re-enactors of the colonial period on this tour. The Brick Hotel, built in 1764, is still a thriving restaurant in Newtown PA. Their Sunday Brunch is filled with locals and visitors every week. The Newtown Hardware Store has been operating for over 130 years and is right next door is The Newtown Book and Record Exchange. Not only can you trade in your old books and CD’s for store credit, hard to find titles become easier to find. The Newtown Movie Theater is a family favorite for movies and live dramatic productions. It is the oldest operating movie theater in America.

The Best Restaurants in Newtown

You will find a restaurant for every palate and budget. Central Bucks’ very own “Steven Starr” has just opened his third BYOB restaurant in Newtown. Chef Francisco Argueta opened Florentino’s on State Street twenty years ago and it is a favorite for fish and homemade pasta. The eggplant parmigiano may be the best you have ever savored, Oishi blends locally grown ingredients into Korean, Japanese and Thai specialties! Urbanspoon called it the best sushi spot outside of NYC! Isaac Newton’s was just named the #1 Beer Bar in Bucks County! They have more beers on tap and in bottles that one can imagine. They are involved in the Annual Newtown Brewfest, which attracts hundreds of people every year. The Newtown Business Association is an active group that also runs several events throughout the year to support restaurants and its members.

Fun Activities for the Whole Family

Tyler State Park  encompasses over 1,700 acres. It surrounds you with the most beautiful scenery as you hike, bike, canoe, horse-back ride, fish, cross-country ski, play disc golf , picnic, walk your dog, or even see a play at the Spring Garden Mill. Park roads, hiking trails, and facilities are carefully nestled within the original farm and woodland setting. The Neshaminy Creek meanders through the park, dividing the land into several interesting sections. Climbing Indian Rock is a rite of passage for many local teens. A two-story cliff above the creek, with a rope swing, that can be accessed by the rock steps. An amazing view!

The Newtown Athletic Club has just expanded and opened a world-class outdoor aquatic complex. Amenities include an adult pool, water slides, lazy river, outdoor bar and restaurant. This health and wellness facility offers everything from workouts to spa treatments! Kids have been having their birthday parties here for years!

Places of Worship in Newtown PA

No matter what your religious or spiritual beliefs are, Newtown provides a place to worship together. This diverse community includes beautiful churches, such as St Andrew’s Catholic Church, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and The Newtown Presbyterian Church. Jewish friends gather at The Shul in Newtown or Shir Ami. Quakers have been coming together at The Newtown Meeting House since 1817.  At Soulutions, located right next door to the movie theater, people gather for meditation, Reiki healing and spiritual workshops.
