News & Views About Real Estate in the Greater Philadelphia Area
The Most Romantic Homes Available Now
Today’s official Sotheby’s International Realty blog post, “10 Romantic Homes for Valentine’s Day,” highlights residences around the world sporting some sort of amorous aspect. If that’s not enough to connect selling homes and St. Valentine, today’s Wall Street Journal asks, “Does Romance Sell Homes?” (subscription may be required.) In what one might call a dubious angle to wrangle a story for Valentine’s Day, ZipRealty analyzed for-sale real estate listings in 24 large cities in 2013. According to the survey, the descriptions that included the word “romantic” were 86% more expensive and 27% larger than listings that lacked the term. The survey shows that warm-weather locations have the most “romantic” homes — loggias, pools and views somehow carry an aura of romance.
Fireplaces Say ‘Romance’
To be fair, those of us in colder climates and especially residents in the winter-weary Philadelphia real estate market must ask: What about fireplaces? What’s cozier than cuddling in front of the fireplace, even if it’s with your cat or dog instead of your Valentine? Whether you have a historical home with a fireplace that dates to the Colonial era or a newer home where you need only turn a switch to create a gas flame, you can’t beat winter nights by the fire.
Beyond fireplaces, we’d like to point out some pretty romantic elements in selected homes, including some that are just about one-of-a-kind among Pennsylvania homes for sale. Consider, for example, Harmony Mountain in Waverly, Pa., where a professional-grade spa is located just off the main bedroom suite. With plenty of room for two people, its sauna, whirlpool, steam shower and massage area are ready to get the kinks out. Plus, outside a heated stone path leads to a Japanese-style hot tub. Add to these features a circular meditation room complete with a hidden burner for Japanese tea and we are quite certain Harmony Mountain offers the deepest relaxation of any home in our inventory of Pennsylvania houses for sale.
Getting Romantic Over Fondue
Spa time not for you? Consider the built-in fondue table at this home located high atop a hill in Sinking Spring, Pa., between Reading, Pa,, and Allentown, Pa. Located in a finished lower level modeled after an authentic German Rathskeller, it has a gas-fired central burner where a fondue pot rests. Chocolate-dipped strawberries, anyone?
Work off the fondue with a swim in the home’s indoor pool, which also has a Tarzan-style rope for making an adventurous entrée into the water.
