Historic walking tours of Newtown are popular, and Tyler State Park offers nature walks, running and biking trails and outdoor fun for the entire family. Nearby country clubs include Jericho Mountain and Doylestown, both offering fine golfing opportunities. Historic Washington Crossing State Park and the Delaware River are minutes away.
The Historic Newtown Theater, which recently celebrated its centennial anniversary, is one of the oldest operational movie houses in the country. It features entertainment from current blockbusters to independent films. Director, M. Night Shyamalan's movie, Signs, was partially filmed in Newtown and provides a glimpse into the look and feel of the historic downtown.
A retail storefront at the corner of South State Street and Penn Street was utilized for the film’s Army Recruiting Office. The Book and Record Exchange shop is featured in another scene. Groups of out-of-towners visit Mom’s Bake at Home Pizza daily and frequently comment that they saw the eatery in the film.
Local Inns and B&B’s attract tourists from New York to Washington. Favorites for both business travelers and tourists are Pineapple Hill, Inn of the Woods, The Inn at Bowman’s Tower and Barley Sheaf Farm Inn and Spa. The number one attraction for kids is Sesame Place, a magical theme park featuring all the favorite characters from Sesame Street. In addition, kids won’t want to miss Giggleberry Farm located in Peddlers Village near New Hope, PA.
The Newtown Historic Association helps maintain the town’s architectural integrity, serves as a resource for local history, and provides economic and real estate tools for planners. The Association also features a special collection by one of America's foremost folk painters, Edward Hicks, whose painting, Peaceable Kingdom, is recognized by art lovers worldwide.
