Once two separate towns, ‘Bala’ and ‘Cynwyd’ have evolved into one distinct community. Settled by Welsh Quakers with a grant from William Penn, the area is located in Lower Merion township and is northwest of Philadelphia. Bala Cynwyd is part of the Main Line and enjoys the benefits of two train stations. Residents enjoy 30 minute train rides into Center City, Philadelphia. They can also relax in Cynwyd Station Park while they wait for their train.

Bala Cynwyd is made up of spacious, tree lined residential districts. Common are large, standalone stone homes that date back before 1920. There are stone mansions over 100 years old that have aged gracefully and are as relevant as their contemporaries. This is in contrast to the majority of Philadelphia county homes which are, statistically, rowhomes. There are new construction homes available including modern condominiums. Roughly a quarter of Bala Cynwyd is made up of picturesque Westminster and West Laurel Hill Cemeteries. These green spaces are manicured and have interesting topography.

The Cynwyd Heritage trail is a favorite place for residents to get some exercise, relax and take in nature. In the spirit of renewal, the iconic Manayunk bridge has been converted from a railroad to a walking and biking bridge. Is it accessable from the Cynwyd Heritage trail. The bridge connects Bala Cynwyd and Manayunk, Philadelphia. It crosses over the Schuylkill River and Manayunk Canal for an interesting view of Manayunk, the Schuylkill River and Bala Cynwyd.

Bala Cynwyd has a thriving commercial presence. The community is bordered by City Avenue on its southeast border. This bustling district is the modern commercial center of Bala Cynwyd. Modern shopping centers, several broadcasting companies, high-end retailers, restaurants, gyms and health care centers make Bala Cynwyd their headquarters. The appeal of being employed in Bala Cynwyd is twofold: city-grade jobs and accessibility.
