Jenkintown PA Real Estate, Abington PA Real Estate

Deeply rooted in American history, this Township where we invite you to preview Jenkintown PA Real Estate, takes its name from pioneer settler William Jenkins who settled in the area at the very beginning of the 18th century. Jenkintown, however, tends to look forward these days.

The region is about 10 miles from downtown Philadelphia and is home to about 4,400 residents. On the east side of York Road (Route 611), Abington real estate consists mostly of substantial and tidy single-family homes. The other side of York Road includes a mix of single-family houses, rowhouses and twins. There are also some large apartment complexes in this area. Residents can commute to Philadelphia via the Abington-Wyncote station on the SEPTA Warminster rail route.

Residents have access to such cultural gems as the accessible Abington Art Center, the beloved Hiway Theater and the Jenkintown Library, which actively supports the community by staying current with technology trends.

Jenkintown has its own school district, rather small in size, which translates to smaller class sizes. Jenkintown High offers Advanced Placement programs which, according to USnews.com, one third of students take advantage of. There are also private schools nearby: Abington FriendsMeadowbrook and St. Basil Academy (all girls).

The past few years have seen a bit of restaurant revival take place in Jenkintown, so those seeking to grab a bite have some options. 211 York is considered one of the best places in town; Guild Hall Brewing Company and The Drake Tavern will whet your whistle and provide more-than-adequate pub fare; longtime restaurant La Pergola offers healthy Mediterranean masterpieces that are sure to delight. For an even better look at Jenkintown and its restaurant and retail offerings (it once was quite the shopping destination until suburban malls killed it), check out resident Greg Lister's blog.

Quite unique to Jenkintown is Alverthorpe Park. The park is reserved for Abington Township park residents and offers a tailored golf course, tennis courts, a stocked fishing pond and nature trails. Alverthorpe Park is a beautiful perk to living in Jenkintown and the surrounding area.
