Classic narrow street in Fitler Square neighborhood

Located just east of famed Rittenhouse Square and west of desirable University City, residents of Fitler Square enjoy being active in their community. Throughout the year, residents gather in Fitler Square for annual events such as the Easter Egg Hunt, the Spring Fair, a Halloween party and a Christmas tree lighting and, from mid-May to early November, a bustling farmer’s market is great for mingling with friends or preparing for a festive meal.

That same pride seen at community happenings is evident in the well-maintained homes surrounding the Square and its tree-lined streets. Whether ducking down the neighborhood’s enchanting ally ways or finding oneself on more traveled routes, such as South Street, 19th- and 20th -century architecture is found from block to block. Once serving as homes of factory workers, the homes hold traditional, yet artistic, features.

Historical residences include those of war journalist and novelist Richard Harding Davis; Joseph H. Horn, one of the founders of Horn and Hardart; and the home and then library/museum of the Rosenbach Brothers. Today, real estate opportunities range from the mid $200,000s for a two-bedroom, two-bath unit and upwards of $3 to $5 million for a four-bedroom, 5,000-plus-square-foot townhome.
