Oh lá lá! That’s the best phrase to describe Logan Square in Philadelphia. One of five squares originally mapped out by William Penn, the neighborhood’s hallmark is undoubtedly the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Designed by Jacques Gréber, the parkway and square are modeled after the Place de la Concorde in Paris.

Near the center of the neighborhood is Logan Circle, a traffic circle with the exquisite Swann Memorial Fountain at its center. As you round the Swann Fountain, take notice of the Free Library of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Family Court building. Resting side-by-side, the two buildings are modeled after the twin buildings of the Hotel de Crillon. And as your eyes peel away from the buildings, the Ben Franklin Parkway is presented right before your very eyes. Continuing around the circle, note the Franklin Institute and the Academy of Natural Sciences. After the roughly eight-minute walk around the circle, some may feel like they have traveled to France and back!

The Logan Square neighborhood is home to the Moore College of Art and many major office skyscrapers, including those housing Comcast, GlaxoSmithKline and the Philadelphia Electric Company. At the neighborhood’s southern tip is JFK Plaza, more popularly known as Love Park after artist Robert Indiana’s famous sculpture. Because of so many businesses and the museums centered in this area, there are also many large hotels in the Logan Square neighborhood.  

Residentially, Logan Square offers mostly high-rise condominiums, including The Murano, with some blocks of newer low-rise townhouses and some offering more historical rowhouses. Because of its proximity to so many corporate offices, City Hall, the Art Museum Area and the Suburban Square train station, it is a very convenient neighborhood for those who want an easy commute to work.
