Queen Village Philadelphia Real Estate

Queen Village is considered the oldest neighborhood among all Philadelphia real estate and is still very  residential and very historical in its character. More than 800 structures in the neighborhood are on the Philadelphia Historical Register. This concentration of 18th- and 19th-century structures (along with a just a few unique-for-Philadelphia wood houses from the late 1700s) creates some very charming streetscapes. Here and there, more recent in-fill construction has created some spectacular homes tucked among the Federal, Greek Revival and Italianate brick houses.

This Philadelphia neighborhood is a favorite among families who want their children to attend the William M. Meredith Elementary School, so expect to see parents with strollers traversing the sidewalks. Happily, Queen Village is a very culturally diverse and inclusive neighborhood, so expect to see some young hipsters and even a few old-timers whose families have lived there for generations.

Queen Village is a dog friendly neighborhood. To accommodate the canine crowd, Mario Lanza Park at 2nd and Queen Streets includes a dog run complete with hose to clean those paws before heading home. Other dog friendly areas in the neighborhood include the area around the historical landmark Gloria Dei “Old Swedes” Church and a greenwalk along Front Street. Gloria Dei Church, by the way, is the oldest surviving building among all the real estate in Philadelphia real estate.

For children, the playgrounds at Shot Tower and Weccacoe Park are available, the latter includes a tennis court, a rarity in Philadelphia city parks.

Queen Village Philadelphia real estate offers a very walkable neighborhood close to the Italian Market, Penn’s Landing and the weekend farmer’s market at Headhouse Square in adjacent Society Hill. The main business district in the neighborhood is the S. 4th Street garment district, more commonly known as Fabric Row. South Street, a collection of bars, restaurants and galleries, has gone through various phases but seems to draw crowds of revelers regardless.
