We go across the pond, as it were, to find the most significant sale among all Sotheby’s International Realty offices in August 2013. The home pictured at left is actually new construction in a golf community — yes, they do this sort of development in England, too, but call it a golf “estate” — 20 miles from central London. This little getaway has seven en suite bedrooms, an indoor pool and spa, six reception rooms and quarters for your very own Mr. Carson or Mary Poppins. St. Georges Hill, the golf course where this home is located, has the distinction of being the first course developed with the intention of including luxury residences adjacent to the three, gently rolling nine-hole loops that make up the present-day course. That was in 1911, and with the sale of this home for almost $25,000,000, it’s clear this historical setting is still a desirable address.
The next three most significant August sales among Sotheby’s International Realty offices were in resort areas, specifically Jackson Hole, Wyo., Aspen, Colo., and Oakley, Utah. Selling for $19,250,000, $15,600,000 and $14,000,000, they are three more examples large, luxurious-but-rustic properties where owners enjoy the outdoors as much as the indoors (the Utah property, known as a “legacy property,” may be the exception as far as luxury accommodations). See more details and photos for these properties and the other August significant sales here.
