Area Guides for Philadelphia and the Surrounding Counties in Pennsylvania & New Jersey

Just in time for the season’s biggest snowstorm, we offer this guide to the best sledding spots in the greater Philadelphia area. Feel free to add your own in the comments section below.

Where to Sled in Philadelphia

Conveniently, Philadelphia Magazine has put together a guide (complete with videos!) of top spots around the city and suburbs. Curbed Philly pulled together its own list last January, and its 10 spots cover a diverse amount of territory, ranging from Burholme Park in the Northeast to the water tower in Chestnut Hill to Clark Park in the west and even the Art Museum steps! Here’s the link complete with map.

Slip-Sliding Away in Montgomery County

The Willows in Villanova is where it’s at for young and old alike when it comes to grabbing your Flexible Flyer, saucer or toboggan. For those who want some altitude, Mill Hill in East Greenville is the highest point in Montgomery County. Even Valley Forge Park in King of Prussia has an incline suitable for sledding. Again, for more info and addresses, try this link.

Where to Sled in Bucks County

Up north in Bucks County, a favorite — and rather imposing hill – is Magill’s Hill just north of New Hope Borough on Route 32/River Road, next to the toll bridge to New Jersey. There’s ample parking, and plenty of hay bales provide a bumper at the bottom. Additional hills around the county include the Nockamixon State Park, above the marina; the hill at the Mercer Museum, perfect for those who live in Doylestown; and Tyler State Park below the Upper Plantation Picnic Area and just west of the covered bridge.

For those who prefer cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, the Delaware Canal path offers miles of scenic trail, albeit rather flat terrain. Tyler State Park has a bit more “up and down” for more sporting winter athletes.

Chester and Delaware County Sledding Locales

Ridley Creek State Park in Media has a loooong, gently sloping hill, easy going down but quite a walk to repeat the fun. Strath Haven High School and and Clayton Park and Golf Course are two more places to try in Delaware County.

Directly in front of Pocopson Elementary in West Chester is a favorite Chester County sledding hill along with New Garden Township Park in Landenberg.
