Pennsylvania’s natural beauty is showcased in its northeast Poconos region and in other areas far north and to the west of the Lehigh Valley. These are areas with a long history as a second-home market for residents of New York City and Philadelphia, though most of the select properties we list in these areas could be very comfortable full-time or vacation residences.
The Pocono Mountains region is known for its many outdoor activities, from fly fishing to skiing, hiking, white-water rafting on the Delaware River and lake activities. Its full-time-resident population has exploded in the past 25 years as many New Jersey and New York residents relocated there and commute via I-80 to jobs in those states. It’s a two-hour drive to New York City, but less to employment centers in such areas of New Jersey as Florham Park, Morristown and Parsippany.
Other parts of northeast Pennsylvania appeal to buyers seeking a quieter lifestyle — places like Columbia County, northwest of the Lehigh Valley, and Berks County, directly west of Allentown, Pa., and areas in the far northeastern corner of the state near the New York border are true get-away-from-it-all spots. Vacation-home buyers choose them not so much for amenities like shopping or restaurants; they often want a place where they can “turn off” and simply enjoy their home and their surroundings. Full-time residents may see them as suitable family homes or places where they can entertain.
While these areas not part of our core market, we have successfully listed and sold homes in them and can put you in touch with an agent who can speak with you about your property.
