Get to Know Easton
East of Allentown and Bethlehem, on the border with New Jersey where the Delaware and Lehigh Rivers meet, Easton, Pa., is the county seat for Northampton County, home to Lafayette College and Crayola, as well as many legal offices, two hospitals, the popular Easton Public Market and several museums along the Delaware River and Canal. Easton has a growing arts community spearheaded by the State Theater for Performing Arts. The restaurant scene downtown is hot, and like Allentown, Easton is striving to attract more businesses to its riverfront business district.
Easton is also home to the world headquarters of Crayola. Along with corporate offices and manufacturing facilities, Crayola also offers an exciting children’s attraction in downtown Easton. The Crayola EXPERIENCE® shows visitors how the company makes crayons and markers and offers dozens of interactive and hands-on activities for children.
The Easton Public Market, right in the heart of the city on Northampton Street, is a recent and growing addition to the area's food offerings with vendors offering tasty foods, event space, live music and activities for children.
Easton PA Homes for Sale
Easton is dotted with early homes dating to the 1700s, a fair choice if one wants to live in the downtown area and have the character that comes with a historical house. There are also loft apartments available for rent in the business district. College Hill in Easton remains one of the most esteemed neighborhoods within the city limits. It is a designated historic district with 855 buildings primarily built between 1830 and 1940. College Hill overlooks downtown Easton and has housing stock representing a wide variety of architectural styles, ranging from Gothic Revival, Italianate and Queen Anne to later “Revival” styles from the first half of the 20th century. Like other eastern Pennsylvania cities, Easton is chock-a-block with row houses built to provide affordable accommodation for workers in the city's industrial heyday.
Outside the city limits, particularly in Williams Township, suburban communities have sprung up in former farm fields, offering large houses and easy access to I-78 for commuters to New Jersey and New York. Morgan Hill, a private golf club high above the city of Easton, is adjacent to townhouse and single-family communities that also enjoy great views of the valley below.
