Philadelphia’s Kurfiss Sotheby’s International Realty is helping to fund more than 150 homes to be built by the New Story charity in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
At a recent Sotheby’s International Realty networking conference in Las Vegas, Brett Hagler, New Story CEO and co-founder, gave a moving presentation of the New Story mission to build communities of homes for those in need for $6,500 per home. He challenged the approximately 2,400 Sotheby’s International Realty agents and brokers in the audience to pledge enough during the conference to build 100 homes in Mexico. Within 36 hours, those in attendance topped that request by committing enough funds to build more than 150 houses.
Donald Pearson, chairman of Philadelphia-based Kurfiss Sotheby’s International Realty, and A. James Pearsall, an agent in the company’s New Hope office, were so moved by work of New Story that they each donated $6,500. Agents from the company’s Philadelphia, Main Line and Bucks County offices contributed enough to cover a third home.
New Story’s mission is to provide a safe, sustainable living environment and unlock the potential for families to thrive. All money donated is directly applied to acquiring land, hiring local workers and buying local materials for all communities New Story builds. Once families move in, New Story surveys the community over time to measure the impact a safe home has on families’ lives. Donor organizations can receive updates on the specific families they are helping.
“When I first learned about New Story, I was skeptical that a safe family home could be built for $6,500,” says Pearsall. “I decided to investigate further and was captivated by the stories of success and the amazing talent and dedication that these young professionals bring to making a difference in the lives of desperately needy families.”
“There is great need in many places in the world for safe, sustainable housing, and we hope this community in Mexico is just the first of many that we can participate in,” says Pearson. “What New Story does is really just an extension of what we do everyday at Kurfiss, which is to help people find a house that meets their needs and allows them to live their best life.”
