With Fourth of July celebrations and the heat of summer arriving, it’s prime pool season here in Bucks County. After a cool, wet spring, many home owners finally have their backyard beauties open and ready. According to the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals, Pennsylvania consistently is a top-10 state for number of existing swimming pools and new pools installed, with about 140,000 in the state, including above-ground structures, though the number of above-ground pools in the U.S. is dropping. Not surprisingly, California, Florida and Texas lead the nation in both number of existing pools and new pools installed.
More recently, homeowners have moved toward salt water pools, designs with “infinity edges” and pools that incorporate spas. Heated pools are the norm. In Bucks County, some homeowners of historical properties incorporate fieldstone hardscaping into their pool complexes, a perfect way to join the old and new (see 5955 Sawmill Road or 6431 Stoney Hill Road, represented by Kim Woehr-Kates and Lisa Frushone, respectively, of Kurfiss Sotheby’s International Realty.)
Homeowners are spending big bucks to create backyard pool complexes complete with cabanas with full baths, outdoor kitchens, big-screen TVs and fireplaces. One of the best now on the market is a property in the Indian Spring area of Buckingham Township where the cabana is as nice as a living room and includes a kitchen, full bath and even a dryer for towels. This property is priced at $2,395,000 and represented by Linda Danese of Kurfiss Sotheby’s International Realty. Of course, there are many more properties for sale with party-ready pools for every taste.
