Bucks County neighborhoods like Yardley and Washington Crossing are steeped in historical charm. This video portrays much of the scenic experience you will find in these towns yet they have so much more to offer the individual than just scenery. Below our video highlights more about these two communities and what they can offer the occasional visitor or those looking for a place to call home along the Delaware River.
Washington Crossing is a favorite for the kids and grownups in most Bucks County families. A favorite is the Annual Christmas Crossing Reenactment at Washington Crossing State Park. Over 200 re-enactors in Continental military dress and hear the inspiring speech by “George Washington”. Anyone interested can sign up to be a “troop” member. Teachers and educators love taking students to the Washington Crossing village on Colonial Days and they love the interactive demonstrations about colonial life, especially the cooking and blacksmithing exhibitions.
History isn’t the only thing you get at this park, bicycle riding along the park’s trails are wonderful for families and serious bikers alike. One of our neighbors just participated in the children’s group at the Open Air Theater found on the New Jersey side of Washington Crossing park. Couples celebrate weddings and bridal showers at the Washington Crossing Inn. Built in 1817 as a home originally, it is now a hot spot for dinner, happy hours, and live music. We especially enjoy the Secret Garden in the summer for outdoor dining. Crossing Vineyards is just outside the center of town and hosts a robust events calendar of things to do near Newtown and Washington Crossing PA.
In Yardley, during the holiday season, is the annual Olde Fashioned Christmas parade. Of course Santa is the headliner at this event, but kids got juiced up this past parade to see Yardley’s very own Matthew Shuler in 2013, semi-finalist from The Voice! Check out this video of Matthew Schuler as he turns all 4 chairs in less than in :10 seconds.
The Starbucks is conveniently located at the crossroads of Main St. and Afton Ave where you can get front row view of the parade! Just south of Lake Afton is the Face and Body Spa where you can relax to a soothing massage or indulge in a couples get a way in their private oasis. Walking down Main Street in Yardley is the preferred way of seeing all the highlighted shops, restaurants and small businesses that line its street.
People love breakfast at Charcoal Steaks and Things and a hot spot for lunch is the Canal Street Grille and The Yardley Inn for fine dining. Lena’s Deli is a favorite for those grabbing a quick bite for the road and features homemade soups, Italian sandwiches and desserts…molto delizioso! Yardley’s premier event is Harvest Day in September. This event is put on by the Yardley Business Association and has been getting bigger and better over the forty plus years it has been going. Crafters line up along Main Street, there is a classic car show, and entertainment ranges from live bands, wellness demonstrations, face paintings and pumpkin carvings for the kids. There is something for everyone at Harvest Day.
Many of our Bucks County friends are fans of The Vault Brewing Company where you can sample their pumpkin beers. The Continental Tavern features live entertainment, great burgers and craft beer for the heartier crowd and is one of our favorites for dinner, unless we have the kids with us, then it’s Vince’s Pizza and the Yardley Ice House for sure.
